Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Accountability in government is a cornerstone of good governance and democracy. It ensures that government actions, decisions, and the use of public resources are transparent, responsible, and subject to scrutiny. In Zuru Local Government Area, Kebbi State, there has been an increasing demand for greater accountability from both government officials and the public. Corporate communication can play a crucial role in enhancing accountability by ensuring that government actions are communicated clearly, effectively, and transparently to the public. This study explores how corporate communication strategies can be used to foster greater accountability in Zuru, focusing on how communication practices can promote transparency, reduce corruption, and encourage public participation in governance.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to improve accountability in government, there are still challenges in effectively communicating government actions and decisions to the public in Zuru Local Government Area. A lack of transparency, poor communication strategies, and limited public engagement have led to a gap between government actions and public understanding. This study seeks to investigate how corporate communication can be leveraged to improve accountability in government, ensuring that government officials are held responsible for their actions and that the public is informed and engaged in governance processes.
